Happy Canada Day long weekend! If you’re looking to watch fireworks, there are a number of places in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) that will be lighting up the sky for the holiday.
Downsview Park
As part of its Canada Day festivities, Downsview Park will be having a fireworks show at 10 p.m. Prior to the display, the free event will have live entertainment, games for kids, inflatables, food trucks and more. Activities start at 4 p.m.
Canada’s Wonderland
Visitors can spend Saturday at Canada’s Wonderland where there’ll be live music, authentic Canadian food, street performers and more, in addition to its 200 attractions. Ride roller coasters, eat a funnel cake then enjoy the park’s annual fireworks display at 10 p.m. behind Wonder Mountain. Wonderland’s fireworks are known to have thousands of colourful explosions, reaching heights of over 800 feet.
Ashbridges Bay Park
Watch a fireworks show overlooking the water at Ashbridges Bay Park in East York. At the park, you can have a picnic, a BBQ or simply, go on a walk and enjoy the view. The fireworks start at 10 p.m.
Centennial Park
Centennial Park in Etobicoke has organized its own fireworks displays starting at 10 p.m. Visitors can come early to secure a spot in the park.
Milliken Park
Scarborough’s Milliken Park is hosting its own mesmerizing display of fireworks on Canada Day at 10 p.m. Take a bike ride or enjoy the park’s hiking trains before settling down for the show.
Stan Wadlow Park
East York’s Stan Wadlow Park has got an incredible round of activities prepared for Canada Day, all leading up to its huge fireworks show. The day will kick off with a parade at Dieppe Park at 10: 30 a.m. which will make its way to Stan Wadlow Park. Then, at 11 a.m. Stan Wadlow Park will be bustling with kids activities, live entertainment, an artisan market, food vendors and a beer garden. Finally, the event will end with a spectacular fireworks show presented by the city.
Woodbine Park
Toronto’s rock station Q107 is inviting the public to Woodbine Park for a night of good food and even better tunes. The fun starts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday where there will be tribute bands performingBryan Adams, Foreigner and Bon Jovi. Then on Saturday, more performances will begin at noon with tributes to Neil Young, The Foo Fighters and Aerosmith among others. This all leads up to a fireworks display at 10 p.m.
Ahead of Canada Day celebrations, Toronto police have issued a reminder that personal fireworks in city parks and beaches are prohibited and could result in a $1,000 fine. In addition, any reckless behaviour involving fireworks or using them as weapons will not be tolerated and will be subject to police enforcement.
Police say drivers can also expect heavy traffic delays due to road closures in the area including on Lakeshore Boulevard East. Parking enforcement has been increased due to limited parking and motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate modes of transportation.
