It appears new Toronto Raptors RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley have no problem getting acclimated with Toronto’s culture after new videos show Barrett sharing his favourite city eats and Quickley practicing his Toronto slang.
In last week’s episode of Open Gym, the team’s TV series presented by Bell, the Raptors welcomed new players Barrett and Quickley following a trade that sent OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and Malachi Flynn to the New York Knicks.
The video outlines the beginning moments of the two players’ new journey as soon as they land in Toronto. However, one moment stood out the most amongst Raptors fans.
In the video, Mississauga-bred Barrett tells Quickley he needs to try Osmow’s and Tim Hortons as his first meals in the city.
“It’s Mediterranean food, it’s fire. You get some rice and chicken, got a lot of garlic sauce! Ouuu,” Barrett said.
“Get some timbits. Some honey-glazed timbits,” to which Quickley responds, “What’s a timbit?” and Barrett answers, “Round donut bites.”
Following this exchange, Barrett confidently says “My mans is prepared still.”
Since this video was posted, many Torontonians have shared their reactions, with some calling Barrett a typical Mississauga man for his recommendations.
Barrett might have also secured himself an Osmow’s deal because the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant responded saying it will be reaching out to him.
Meanwhile, in a separate video posted by the Raptors, Quickley is already seen putting his Toronto slang to the test.
In the video, Quickley looks into the camera and says, “Wagwan fam, you’re blessed?” to which fans applauded as perfect slang pronunciation.
One X user even went as far to say, “If I didn’t know better, I would think he’s from here.”
The Raptors next face the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow at 10:30 p.m. ET at Crypto.com Arena.
