Former CityNews reporter and Queens Park correspondent Tina Yazdani says her departure from the broadcaster was “unfair” and that she is taking formal steps to address the situation.

Earlier this month, Yazdani confirmed she was no longer with the company after nearly eight years, most of which she spent covering Queens Park, where she built a reputation for asking tough, hard-hitting questions, including to top politicians.

The reasons for her abrupt departure were not disclosed.

In a recent video posted to social media, Yazdani spoke out publicly for the first time, saying her exit from the Rogers Sports and Media-owned company was “unfair.”

“I wanted to handle the matter privately with Rogers, but unfortunately, that hasn’t happened. I am now having to take formal steps because I feel strongly that the way my employment ended was unfair,” she said.

Yazdani described the sudden departure as “extremely shocking and devastating.”

“I stand by all of the journalism I did. I stand by all of my work. I’m proud of the work I accomplished. I am a strong believer in holding power to account and asking the tough questions,” she added.

One of Toronto’s most prominent employment lawyers, Kathryn Marshall, responded to Yazdani’s post, saying she is “proud of [her] client.”

Yazdani has not publicly confirmed whether she plans to file a lawsuit against Rogers Sports and Media.

Her exit sparked a wave of backlash, with many supporters and politicians praising her work and expressing disappointment over her departure.

Yazdani has since confirmed that she will be joining The Trillium on May 4 to continue her Queens Park reporting.

“They really set the bar high, and I am going to learn so much from them. I’m excited for the journalism and the work I will be doing at The Trillium,” she said.
