A BITTER SHREW by Gillian English. Tarragon Solo Room. July 3 at 2:45 pm, July 4 at 9:15 pm, July 6 at 4:45 pm, July 7 at 6:15 pm, July 10 at 2:15 pm. Buy tickets. Rating NNN

This rather shrill monologue by Gillian English comes highly recommended from other stops on the Fringe circuit.

It’s mostly about her struggles with dating and failure to find meaningful connection with a man. Confident and potty-mouthed, English goes into graphic detail about farting, losing a spermicidal sponge and assessing partner potential (if he doesn’t know what the CBC is, watch out).

This material could be hilarious, but no one was laughing much at the performance I attended.  Admittedly, there were technical difficulties (afterwards English dubbed the performance “technically abnormal”), but the image and video projections we did see were sloppy and didn’t exactly add to the fun.
