The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is returning on King Street, but the iconic orange sign won’t be making a comeback. Swapped for a new look, longtime festivalgoers are mourning the change.
Toronto’s beloved film festival, which draws hundreds of celebrities and tourists annually, is returning from Sept. 10 to 20 for its 51st edition.
After celebrating film for over a decade and being recognized for its bright orange colour palette since 2009, the iconic festival decided to rebrand once more.
“The iconic TIFF Festival Street sign has been redesigned with a bold new look and LED lighting, creating a vibrant (and no longer orange) backdrop for one of TIFF’s most beloved annual traditions: the Festival Street photo,” the press release reads in part.
Now, TIFF is saying goodbye to its iconic orange marquee sign and is introducing a full structural redesign, replacing the solid orange finish with a modern LED light installation, and festivalgoers are mourning the announcement.
