Toronto creators and companies have jumped on a new cinematic TikTok trend based on the work of award-winning American filmmaker Wes Anderson.

Symmetric framing, vivid pastel colours and a splash of quirkiness, what do these elements have in common? They are the signature components that make up Anderson’s production style.

Anderson is highly known for his films The French Dispatch, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and the widely popular 2014 film The Grand Budapest Hotel, among others.

Millions of TikTok users have been inspired by the acclaimed director’s eccentric style and are incorporating his techniques into their own videos. Users are recording themselves going about their lives doing ordinary activities, such as going to cafes, parks, museums and more.

Despite the trend and music being a common denominator, each video is still very unique and personable.

Here in Toronto, creators and local places have put their own spin on the popular trend. Some have filmed themselves going to their favourite book store or going to the Toronto Islands.

In addition, the Art Gallery of Ontario also nailed its version by showing off current art pieces and highlighting the most aesthetic areas of the museum.

Canada’s soccer club York United FC also joined the conversation and showed off its match day preparations.

This growing trend comes ahead of Anderson’s upcoming movie, Asteroid City, set to hit theatres on June 16.
