A Harry Potter-themed drone show featuring more than 1,200 illuminated drones is coming to Toronto for two nights this fall.
DroneArt Show: Harry Potter will take place at YZD, the former Downsview Airport, on Sept. 25 and 26.
A live electric violinist will accompany parts of the soundtrack, while audience members will receive LED wristbands that respond throughout the performance.
Instead of watching the story unfold on a traditional screen, guests will see familiar characters and scenes take shape above them through moving formations of light. The outdoor production will use synchronized drones, music and live performance to recreate memorable characters and scenes from the Harry Potter films in the night sky.
Here is what you need to know before attending.
When and where is the show?
The performances will take place at YZD, located at 590 Wilson Ave. in North York, on Sept. 25 and 26. Doors open at 6 p.m., followed by the show at 8 p.m. Organizers recommend arriving early because late entry may not be permitted.
Each performance runs for approximately 60 minutes, including an intermission. The event is open to all ages, and children younger than three can attend for free.
What can visitors expect?
The production will use 1,200 synchronized drones to revisit recognizable moments from the Harry Potter films, with every aerial movement timed to music from the franchise.
A live electric violinist will add another musical element to parts of the show. Guests will also become part of the display through interactive LED wristbands provided at the event.
Food and drinks will be available to purchase before the performance, along with Harry Potter-themed merchandise like wands, scarves and collectibles. The organizers say themed treats will be offered, but note that Butterbeer is only available at select venues on the tour and has not been confirmed for Toronto.
Outside food and beverages will not be permitted.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Because the entire experience takes place outdoors, the show may be affected by the weather. If organizers determine that a performance cannot safely go ahead, ticket holders will be notified by email.
Guests are encouraged to check the forecast and dress in layers, as temperatures may drop after sunset. Blankets and jackets are recommended, while high heels are not permitted on the field. Comfortable footwear is required. The venue is wheelchair-accessible, and paid parking will be available on-site.
When do tickets go on sale?
Tickets will go on sale to the general public through Fever on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m.
Fans can join the waitlist ahead of the sale to receive early presale access and a 15 per cent discount. Ticket prices have not yet been announced.
Tickets will only be available through the Fever website or app and will not be sold at the venue.
