It’s that time again when Torontonians are confused on how to dress for the ever-changing weather.

In Canada, spring typically entails cold mornings, warm afternoons and chilly evenings.

On Monday, Toronto TikToker Jordan Shore (@jordshore) shared a hilarious and accurate video about how residents dress and act in the spring.

In the video, Shore is dressed in a long-sleeve top while his friend is dressed in a sleeveless basketball jersey. Throughout the video, the running joke is that Torontonians love to dress light but refuse to admit they’re cold during spring.

To help people figure out what to wear for the transitional weather, Now Toronto spoke to local stylist Myles Sexton about how exactly Torontonians should dress this season.

“I think layering is really important because I think it’s just about wanting to build your outfit around the weather that’s expected, right? So, having more lighter, breathable pieces underneath and then building on from that,” they said.

Sexton recommends wearing a blouse and throwing on a blazer or a light jacket on top, so it is easy to take off once the day gets warmer. However, it is also important to make sure that the outfit underneath is equally as strong.

“It’s really about fabric choices as well. You want to choose more breathable fabrics, you know, going with maybe a linen or cotton or something that is going to give you a bit more breathing room whether you’re hot or cold. Avoiding synthetics and things like that,” they said.

When it comes to what’s trending this spring season, Sexton says it’s all about the bright colours, florals and European-inspired pieces.

“I think we’re seeing a lot of colours coming back. I think we’re seeing a lot of bridging of menswear into womenswear, which I love. A lot of strong shouldered blazers and playing with chinos. I love the blending of these stereotypical gender kind of fashion which I feel like is coming into womenswear again a lot. We haven’t really seen that since the 80s,” they said.

“…For spring, we’re seeing a lot of mosaic or like floral patterned pieces…It’s sort of like a Santorini sort of vibe this year with the aesthetic and seeing a lot of pulled influence from Greek summer fashion,” they continued.

In addition to clothing, Sexton says accessories such as hats, broaches, or statement jewellery are very popular and are having a major resurgence this spring season.
