A Trinidad and Tobago food and music festival is returning to downtown Toronto.

More than 20,000 people are expected at Yonge-Dundas Square for the second annual Trinbago Toronto Festival on Aug. 26 and 27, from 1-8 p.m. on both days.

The free festival is a celebration of the culture, history, and impact of the Trinidad & Tobago diaspora in Canada, according to a press release. The event is under the support of the Trinidad & Tobago Consulate in Toronto and the Caribbean Scholarship Foundation.

Visitors can expect a variety of traditional food from the twin islands, a new Carib Beer Garden, and loads of soca music to dance to all day.

Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) is one of the festival’s new partners this year, and on Aug. 26 (CAL) will launch its highly anticipated Welcome Home campaign as part of the festival.

“This will include special headline performances by top artists from the Caribbean: soca powerhouses Nadia Batson and Farmer Nappy; calypso legend David Rudder; chutney soca star KI; and dancehall singer/DJ Agent Sasco. They will be supported by a cast of electrifying local talent, giving you the best in calypso, soca, tassa, cultural dances, steelpan music, alongside Canada’s hottest Soca DJ line up, which features DJ Steph Honey, DJ Maceo, DJ DOC and D’Enforcas,” organizers said in a press release.

The Acting Consul General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Tracey Ramsubagh-Mannette, said the festival is a chance to showcase Trinbagonians and their vibrant culture.

“At its core, this event is really a big ‘thank you’ to our citizens that have distinguished themselves in every possible field of endeavour and who fly our flag high every day. With the help of our partners, we aim to encourage Trinbagonians and both old and new friends to ‘come home’ for an authentic Trinidad and Tobago experience,” she said in a statement.

In celebration of the festival, the CN Tower and Toronto Sign will also be lit in Trinidad and Tobago’s national colours (red, black and white) on Aug. 26.
