- A driver in Carleton Place, Ontario, was ticketed after transporting a long ladder dangerously extending from a Smart Car.
- Police say the ladder was encroaching on the driver’s space.
A resident in Eastern Ontario has been ticketed after driving with a very long ladder hanging out of a very small car.
Police stopped a driver in Carleton Place with a ladder precariously positioned in their Smart Car as they drove down the road on Monday morning.
“If you are transporting a ladder (or anything else large), a very small car is not the right choice,” the Eastern Region detachment of the OPP posted on X.
The driver was stopped in the area of County Road 29 and McNeely Avenue in Carleton Place.
Police say the ladder was all up in the driver’s space in the car, and the person behind the wheel was issued a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act for having an insecure load.
“Thought I’d seen it all when I spotted a guy in a 3-Series convertible hauling lumber on the 401 a couple months ago,” one person wrote on X.
“‘SMART’ car…not a smart driver obviously…seriously, it’s Flowers For Algernon out there…be safe,” another person commented.
“Common sense prevails – or not!”
