When the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) rolls out its red carpets, you know celebrities and familiar faces are never far behind. As the city bids its farewell to the annual event, it holds on tightly to the faces of those who make it unforgettable.
To mark TIFF’s 50th anniversary, View The Vibe Magazine and Now Toronto collaborated on a TIFF50 portrait studio presented by and shot at Bisha Hotel in downtown Toronto.
From stars of Netflix’s new hit show “Wayword” to a Michelin-starred chef and some of the city’s biggest entrepreneurs, celebrity photographer and creative director James Nicholas “Nick” Merzetti embraced a cinematic look and feel using black-and-white portraiture to highlight their unique, star qualities. Each subject was invited to lean into their character or essence, resulting in striking photos with an almost renaissance-inspired aurora.
As we reflect on TIFF50, here are some bold portraits taken of the subjects in celebration of the festival’s milestone year.
