Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi Bounce (Island) Rating: NN Rating: NN

Bon Jovi tunes often seem to appreciate in value with age. Livin’ On A Prayer, Wanted Dead Or Alive, Bed Of Roses, Blaze Of Glory — all these songs, which seemed cheesy, overproduced and totally unnoteworthy upon release, have managed to worm their way into the catalogue of rock classics. How? It’s one of the world’s great mysteries. That’s why I’m reluctant to write this record off as the collection of banal, uninspiring adult rock tracks it appears to be. Richie Sambora’s guitar is as basic as ever, as are Jon’s lyrics, only this time many of them are inspired by the events of 9/11. Not that you’d know it by listening, because Bon Jovi still can’t sing worth shit. It doesn’t seem like any of these tunes are going to turn around and bite me on the ass, but I won’t turn my back just yet.
