A Go Go gone?

Online rumours suggesting the imminent closure of Crepes A Go Go (18 Yorkville, at Yonge, 416-922-6765, crepesagogo.com) are wildly inaccurate.

“I’m not going anywhere!” insists the French flapjack shack’s Veronique Perez.

She is, however, about to launch a sister cafe dedicated to the popular Parisian pancake later this month in a recently vacated bubble tea shop on the southwest corner of Spadina and Bloor. Her next door neighbour happens to be none other than Greg’s Ice Cream (750 Spadina, at Bloor, 416-962-4734, gregsicecream.com). Roasted marshmallow ice cream on a crepe sounds like a match made in foodie heaven.

“People are always asking me when I’ll come back to the Annex,” says Perez who opened the first CaGG almost 10 years ago at Bloor and Bedford before relocating to its current digs at the base of a chichi condo tower. “And I’ve always wanted to. So when the space came up, I took it. It was that fast.”

Construction is already under way.

“We’re still waiting for the final permits and what-not but we should be open in three weeks. I don’t have a kitchen or stoves so it’s only a question of having a nice décor and setting up my crepieres. There’ll be fewer seats then Yorkville but we’ll have a patio. And we’ll be open till midnight for all the students, too.”

How has the reaction been in her old stomping grounds?

“I know everybody in the neighbourhood and they know me,” laughs Perez. “I walk down the street and everyone’s so happy to see me. ‘Oh Veronique, you’re back!’ It’s really quite wonderful.”
