All’s Belle

Contrary to earlier reports, it now looks like the Bellevue (61A Bellevue, at Nassau, 647-340-8224, thebellevue.ca) will not be closing after all. The Kensington café’s owner, Chris Dardarian, confirms that his dispute with his landlord has been settled and the previously planned expansion into the space next door is under way. Watch for a relaunch later this spring.

Flats flattened

Down at Queen and Augusta, Tortilla Flats has called it quits after a 20-year-run. Blame higher-than-ever rents and a crowd that’s drifted south to King and west to Parkdale now that the area’s mega dance clubs have all been turned into high-rise condos. Still, we’ll miss those $3 tequila shots on the backyard deck, if not the gringo Tex-Mex grub.
