Move over, Momofuku. The hottest new American import isn’t a Manhattan celebu-chef but a bunch of good ol’ boys from Virginia.

Meet Five Guys (329 Yonge, at Edward, 416-591-0404, fiveguys.ca), the rapidly expanding stateside franchise that’s just opened an outlet in what was once part of the HMV superstore just north of Dundas Square. The joint was seriously slammed for Sunday’s launch with a mixed crowd of first-day foodies and curious tourists chowing-down on the chain’s signature Double Cheeseburger ($7.69). Few seemed aware there were free roasted peanuts next to the ketchup dispenser.

With a Silver Snail upstairs, here’s proof that, though they’ll no longer pay for music, the public still ponies up for fast food and comic books.
