Easy does it again on College

Peter Morrison’s no stranger to breakfast. In fact, his Easy all-day café at the western end of Queen West goes through more than 2,000 eggs a week.

That number looks to significantly increase now that he’s has just launched a second Easy (713 College, at Montrose, 416-535-2222, easyrestaurant.ca) in what remains of downtown’s original Little Italy. The doors opened Saturday.

“Everybody’s been asking me that for years, why open a second one?” says the easy-going Morrison. “Easy took off quickly years ago but I wanted to wait until the time was right to give it another push.”

The menu looks virtually the same.

“Except for the rotisserie chicken,” laughs Morrison. “But you can get that two doors down in the Portuguese place.”

Is he worried about competition from nearby Boom?

“Not really, they’re aimed at a different crowd.”

Fellow Parkdale brunch spot Mitzi’s also recently tried to take on College. And failed.

“They seemed to be doing mostly lunch and not much breakfast. And if it’s one thing we definitely do, and do well, it’s breakfast.
