First look at Lee Lounge

The wraps are off top chef Susur Lee’s latest Lee Lounge (601 King W, at Portland, 416-504-7867, susur.com).

The Top Chef Masters runner-up – he was robbed! – takes time away from his New York City, Washington DC and Singapore supper-clubs to re-launch his flagship King West cantina in the very near future.

Expect tongue-in-cheek Chinoiserie, fanciful champagne cocktails and fork-free cheeseburger springrolls (the same ones sold at this summer’s Tasty Thursdays, perhaps?).

Lee has been on an opening spree the last two years. First he took Manhattan (sort of, critics felt otherwise) and then it was off to D.C. for a spot in that capital’s Thompson Hotel. He bounced back in the Big Smoke with a near-perfect prix fixe at Lee (which made NOW’s top five lunches of the year).

And the newest opening? Sooner than you think. Watch for an interview with Lee and partner/designer Brenda Bent in the January 27th Design issue of NOW.
