Regulars drive off the Road

Call it the culinary equivalent of “musical differences.” Recent NOW Readers Poll winners Jeff and Nuit Regular have left Khao San Road (326 Adelaide West, at Peter, 647-352-5773, khaosanroad.ca) to concentrate on their other Thai restos, the recently launched Sukhothai 2.0 (52 Wellington East, at Church, 647-351-4612, sukhothaifood.ca) and Sabai Sabai (225 Church, at Dundas East, 647-748-4225, sabaisabaito.ca). Former partner Monte Wan now flies solo at KSR, but who’s in charge of the kitchen?

“We do not have any plans to replace chef Nuit, but we will need someone in her absence,” says Wan.

You Say Cucina

Over in Jonesville, Aprilé Bambina Cucina (1054½ Gerrard East, at Jones, 647-352-6969, aprilebambina.com) is open for business. No relation to Origin’s Claudio Aprile, the family-friendly Italian trat is the joint effort of Great Burger Kitchen and Hank’s Ted Koutsogiannopoulos, Mary McGugan of McGugan’s pub and former Jamie Kennedy sous Bryan Burke. The 40-seat Cucina started out as Aprilé Bambina Cantina until better minds prevailed.

“People saw Cantina and thought Mexican restaurant,” says McGugan of the name change.
