Hinterland Borealis Method Charmat Rosé 2014
Rating: NNN
Why This Charmat-method sparkling Gamay from Hinterland beckons with its gorgeous, almost unearthly shade of bubblegum magenta – much like the aurora borealis it’s named for. Notes of berries and brioche with lots of acidity to back up the richness.

Château des Charmes St. David’s Bench Vineyard Gamay Noir Droit 2012
Rating: NNNN
Why In the late 80s, winemaker Paul Bosc stumbled upon a lone, tall vine in a block of Gamay. He eventually named the clone for its upright, or “droit,” stature. Richer than most local Gamay, it’s full of dark fruit and pepper with soft hints of smoke.

Domaine de La Madone Le Perréon Beaujolais-Villages 2014
Rating: NNN
Why If this were a drinkable still life, it would be a paint-by-numbers of a ripe berry-bowl spilling over into a dish of fruit gummies sprinkled by the petals from a haphazardly cut summer bouquet.
