Keriwa kaput?

Not quite, but owner chef Aaron Joseph Bear Robe will no longer be offering a la carte dinner service at his wildly creative Keriwa Café (1690 Queen W, at Roncesvalles, 416-533-2552, keriwacafe.ca) as of Saturday October 6.

“We’ve accomplished a lot in the last year, both professionally and personally,” says Robe. “I feel like we’ve done what we set out to do but it’s time to move forward.”

Instead of a nightly supper lineup, Robe will now only feature a once-weekly prix fixe tasting menu starting Saturday October 13.

“Initially, we’ll only be offering it on Saturdays but we’ll do Fridays, too, if there’s interest. There’ll be a single seating with a maximum of 30 seats for $300 per person including wine, tax and gratuity.”

How many courses does that get you?

“I’m going to say 13,” says Robe. “Obviously, some of them will be smaller than others.”

Frugal foodies can bring their your own wine and do the same prix fixe for $200. But what about weekend brunch? Surely, you’re not killing that, too?

“I love eggs but I don’t like to cook them,” laughs Robe. “I’d rather spend the time with my family.”
