Kitsch ‘n’ kitchen

Anyone who remembers the heyday of JOV on Mount Pleasant will be thrilled to learn that the upscale beanery’s Jill McAbe and Owen Steinberg are about to resurface with Harvest Kitchen (harvestkitchen.ca) in the old Tati space on Harbord. The brother-and-sister team promise a November unveiling with a locally sourced menu that will appeal to vegetarians as well as “their meat-eating friends.” Sounds terribly rustic. Should we expect reclaimed wood?

“Some,” laughs McAbe. “But only from the demolition!”

Wahl mart

Brothers Mark and Donnie Wahlberg are no strangers to beef, the latter as would-be rapper Marky Mark, who famously bared his 8-pack in a Calvin Klein underwear ad back in the 90s, the former as the bad-boy hunk in New Kids on the Block turned A-lister. So it should be no surprise that the pair will be bringing their Wahlburgers franchise to the Metropolitan Hotel at Wellington and Peter. Expect a launch of Planet Hollywood proportions early next year.

Departure Lounge

After a nine-year run, Didier Leroy has shuttered his eponymous bistro at Yonge and St Clair. He whipped up his final soufflé last Saturday night.

And the Globe’s Ed Ho has announced that he’s closing his popular Earth Bloor West (2448 Bloor West, at Jane, 416-763-2222, thinkglobaleatlocal.ca) on Sunday September 29. Blame condofication.

“If I could find an appropriate space, I’d love to relocate somewhere in the neighbourhood,” says Ho.
