Last supper at Senior’s

After 51 years of char-grilling some of the most budget-minded beef in town, Senior’s (1397 Yonge, at Pleasant, 416-924-8366) is calling it quits. A notice in the front windows says the beloved steakhouse will be closing for good on Saturday June 23rd.

“It’s bittersweet and much more emotional than we expected,” says Mary Marlet who’s worked at her family’s resto her entire life.

“People are walking in and saying, ‘You can’t close! Where are we going to go?’ And to hear them say how important my mom and dad have been to them is quite remarkable.”

If you want to experience a slice of local culinary history before it gets transformed into yet another Hero Burger, Saturday’s your last chance. But don’t make a fuss.

“We’ll be closing just as we opened,” says Martel. “Very quiet, no party or anything. Just a regular working day. And then that’s it.”

Don’t feel bad for the Marlets – they still own the building.
