Richmond Station ready to roll

Having kept a low profile of late, Marben’s Carl Heinrich and Ryan Donovan fly solo for the first time this week with the launch of Richmond Station (1 Richmond W, at Yonge, 647-748-1444). The 100-seat bistro should be open by Friday for dinner service, with lunch to follow in time for the lucrative holiday season.

How does the season-two winner of Top Chef Canada describe the new menu?

“That’s the first thing I always get asked and I never know what to say,” laughs Heinrich. “I guess it’s the same way I’ve always cooked but a little more advanced.”

That’d be locally sourced and seasonal but minus the clichés of barnboard. The split-level L-shaped room features a bar up front with two-tops along the opposite walls, an open kitchen out back and period black and white photos on the walls documenting the construction of the Yonge Street subway line that runs under the restaurant.

“The pictures all show people working,” says Heinrich. “And you can watch us working, too!”
