Slow food block party

To celebrate the end of summer, iconoclastic chef Jamie Kennedy and kitchen crew are throwing a block party on the parking lot next to Gilead Café (4 Gilead Pl, at King E, 647-288-0680, jamiekennedy.ca) this Sunday afternoon.

Named in honour of his long-time production head Ken Steele, the first annual Kenapalooza takes place from 3 to 8 pm. Proceeds go to Slow Food Toronto (slowfood.to). Advance ticket are $10 – children 12 and under get in for free – and are available from the Café or Jo at 416-362-1957, ext 380 (joanna@jamiekennedy.ca).

Booths will feature appropriately slow food from Oyster Boy (oysterboy.ca), Weezie’s, Julia Kennedy (juliakfinefood.com) and Queen Margherita Pizza (queenmargheritapizza.ca). Jamie promises his famous frites as well as homemade floats, piggy in buns and three kinds of Korean-inspired pancakes. Beer and wine, too, and nothing over five bucks.

And if that’s not enough to guarantee an instant sell-out, local Led Zeppelin tribute band the Crunge (myspace.com/thecrungetoronto) will be playing three sets. Make sure to request Hot Dog, Custard Pie and the Lemon Song.
