Susur does Dundas

Susur does Dundas

Celebu-chef Susur Lee may have recently shuttered his Shang supper club in New York City, but his culinary empire looks set to expand again, only this time locally.

Expected to open early in the new year, the as-yet-unnamed boîte in the former Le Corner at 777 Dundas West marks the top chef’s first partnership with his sons Levi and Kai.

“To be honest, this has happened so fast that we haven’t had a chance to talk to my dad about exactly what we’re going to do,” says 19-year-old Kai Bent-Lee. “Lee is my parents’ vision, but the new restaurant is mine and my brother’s. And it’ll be aimed at a much younger crowd.”

Rock ‘Stock

Michael Stadtländer and more than 100 local chefs gather in a field just north of Shelburne Sunday (October 16) for Foodstock, a celebration of the farmland and water resources threatened by the proposed mega-quarry.

Each chef does one dish so there’s plenty to sample, and attendees are advised to bring reusable cups, plates and cutlery. A wineskin, some biodegradable mini-wipes and rubber boots might also come in handy.

Musical entertainment is supplied by Ron Sexsmith, Jim Cuddy, Sarah Harmer, Cuff the Duke and others. Admission is pay what you can, but a minimum $10 donation is suggested. The proceeds from the event go toward paying the legal fees accrued by the grassroots group opposed to the strip mine. Advance tickets can be ordered at canadianchefscongressfoodstock.eventbrite.com.

Foodstock runs from 11 am to 5 pm, rain or shine.
