Taco town

As the ongoing popularity of Momofuku to Oddseoul and A-OK Foods proves, nouvelle Korean cuisine is the hottest culinary trend to hit Hogtown since the great Santa Fe revival of ’95. We’re about to get even warmer when Playa Cabana launches a fourth outpost in Koreatown come September.

“It’ll be called Barrio Coreano,” says Cabana honcho Dave Sidhu. “It’ll still be Mexican but with a Korean influence. I used to live in LA and you see a lot of fusion there with all the food trucks.”

The casual 60-seat taqueria will be located at 642 Bloor West near Euclid in what used to be Rajput Bistro. Renovations are already under way. What prompted the move so soon after last month’s opening of Playa Cabana Hacienda on Dupont?

“The space came up and I grabbed it,” says Sidhu. “It’s a bit of a no-brainer, really.”
