Taste that Toronto

As Lady Gaga’s back-up dancers rehearse in broad daylight to a back-up tape for tomorrow night’s MMVAs just two blocks away, local foodies converged on John Street from Adelaide south to Wellington Saturday for Luminato’s third annual 1000 Tastes of Toronto food fest.

For five bucks a pop, you get to sample the wares of Thai-tastic Khao San Road (khaosanroad.ca), oyster-boyz Starfish (starfishoysterbed.com) and Poutini’s House of Poutine (poutini.com) as well re-heated frozen crap by a multinational supermarket chain who’s name escapes us.

The longest line-ups – we’re talking 30 people, max – are for Queen Margherita Pizza (queenmargheritapizza.ca) -who set up a miniature wood-fired pizza oven on the site – and Susur Lee’s (susur.com) snack shack where sons Levi and Kai Bent-Lee whipped up the top chef’s signature lettuce-wrapped cheeseburger spring rolls.

1000 Tastes of Toronto continues Sunday from noon to 6 pm.
