Learn how to make your own
Are you a beer lover who lacks the motivation and geeky know-how to brew at home? Or someone who aspires to the bragging rights to their very own super-quaffable house wine? Check out Fermentations! (201 Danforth, 416-778-9000, fermentations.ca), where you can tailor-make your own wine, beer, cider and mead with the guidance of owner Charles Fajgenbaum, who holds the designation of master winemaker awarded by Wine Judges of Canada.
The grapes are sourced locally and from Spain and Chile, and the wines have been recognized at both Canadian and international competitions. Beer recipes span the style spectrum, with gluten-free recipes available upon request.

Qualifying rounds happen February 28 and 29 at the Shake and Sling Pavilion inside the Restaurants Canada Show at the Enercare Centre, Exhibiton Place. Finals are March 1. Competitors can register at topshelfopen.ca ($50 per round or $150 for all four).
