Though he's not fond of the festive fowl himself, Edward Levesque and his Kitchen (1290 Queen East, at Hastings, 416-465-3600, edwardlevesque.ca) will be throwing their annual Thanksgiving wingding on Sunday (October 7). The $38 locavore spread includes a choice of starters followed by the breast of a naturally raised bird, three sides and either warm berry crumble or pumpkin brittle tart. Note: the ever-contrary chef doesn't do stuffing.
Ain't it Grand?
The perpetual queue to get into Grand Electric (1330 Queen West, at Elm Grove, 416-627-3459, grandelectricbar.com) will get slightly shorter when the popular Parkdale taqueria expands into the apartment upstairs later this fall. That doesn't mean there won't be lineups.
The guiding light behind top Thai trats Sukhothai and Khao San Road, Nine of Dine winner Nuit Regular is about to take on a third gig as executive chef of the imminent Sabai Sabai (225 Church, at Dundas East, 416-450-2031, sabaisabaito.ca). No word on concept yet, but they say brunch is definitely in the cards.
Be the first of your crew to dine at superstar chef Daniel Boulud's eponymous café in the newly launched flagship of the Four Seasons Hotel (60 Yorkville, at Bay, 416-964-0411, fourseasons.com/toronto/dining/cafe_boulud) when the Mediterranean-themed "it spot" opens Saturday (October 6). You'll find the multi-Michellin-starred toque's 150-seat boîte just off the lobby. Looks 'spensive.
Having made a splash at Rosebud, Citizen and Hey Meatball, Rodney Bowers returns to the front lines with the abbreviated Hey (89 Roncesvalles, at Pearson, 647-748-0439), the odd split-level space that was once Tinto coffee house. The theme's still Italian comfort food, but the price points are lower than you'd expect.
"It's the food I've always done - simple, with a refined elegance," says the voluble chef. "And it's super-affordable."
That translates as starters like warm carrot and avocado salad ($8.75) and mains like mustard-crusted Tamworth pork loin sided with a kale and tomato cassoulet ($17.50). There's even deep-fried pizza!
