Another day another city woe, but this time residents are taking a jab at Toronto’s infrastructure, and possibly for good reason.

A new poll conducted by Angus Reid and commissioned by Devron Developments, found that of the 800 current and future homeowners they surveyed, 90 per cent believe the city needs better-built condos that suit people’s lifestyle needs.

This includes functional layouts, access to amenities and more storage space.

In fact, over 60 per cent of residents want condos to have a lot more storage and spacious living spaces, claiming these are the factors that could deter them from considering living in a Toronto condo if not met.

“Condos, our fastest-growing and most sustainable housing option, do not often evoke much excitement or pride for many Torontonians. As a result, condos are seen by many as a temporary place to live. It pains me and makes me realize that we have a lot of work to do to help inspire people to feel that ‘condo’ can be synonymous with ‘home,’ Pouyan Safapour, president of Devron, said in a press release Thursday.

Safapour goes on to say that if the city can’t overcome this obstacle, it will become impossible for infrastructures to serve people.

The survey also found that 71 per cent of respondents believe other cities have more interesting or exciting condo developments going on compared to Toronto.

Additionally, 83 per cent agree that the city is “starved” for good architecture.
