Get shorty

Rating: NNNNN

From micro booty shorts for cheeky exhibitionists to practically pants for the leg bashful, summer’s shorts come in every length to suit your style.

Top, from left to right: Give your look a workout by bustin’ retro shorties from AC/DC Rockware by Dragonfly ( Pull , 435 Queen West, 416-593-5598, $29). Add some striped knee-high sweatsocks, a matching sweatband and you’re ready for windmills and knee bends. These brown low-riders have parallel fold-over pockets on both sides (Pull, $39).

Massimo board shorts will make ’em see rainbows. The sporty lines (red/orange/yellow) on the backside draw happy attention to your, um, assets. ( Zellers , 1245 Dupont, 416-531-5704, and others, $16.97). Better than standard denim cut-offs, low-waist Daisy Dukes deliver tons of thigh, minus the fussy – did I just say fussy? – frayed hems ( Old Navy , Eaton Centre, 416-593-2551, and others, $26.50). Punchy (Zellers, $16.97).

Middle, from left to right: Call it an optical illusion or call it desperation, but I choose to believe that the vertical stripes on these cotton shorts trick the eye into seeing smaller thighs ( Jacob Annexe , 220 Yonge, 416-596-9262, $29.99). These medium-length cotton cargos come with drawstrings on the waist and thighs, in case self-inflicted bondage turns you on (Jacob Annexe, $29.99). Made from fast-drying Supplex, two-tone men’s board shorts by Triple Five Soul are good for swimming and waterless frolicking ( Change Room , 425 Queen West, 416-977-0088, $85). Spiewak’s stone-coloured knickers have a nice ruched detail behind the knees (Change Room, $85). With cute button-down pockets, floral lining, side slits and glam length, taupe cropped pants by Dagg and Stacey look good with flats but killer with heels (Pull, $120).

Bottom, from left to right: Totally comfortable, with a zippered back pocket and side slits, these sporty clamdiggers are better in the gym than on the street (Jacob Annexe, $29.99). Men’s riveted denim button-fly by Loid has mother-of-pearl snaps on the back and side pockets, and reinforced patches between the legs ( Studio Deluxe , 793 Queen West, 416-603-3704, $140).

A modernized cargo by Lithium features a really sweet cut, zippered pockets (so your change stays put), a special pocket for your mobile and more cargo pockets on the back (Change Room, $105). Geek Boutique’s navy 3/4s boast a wide cuff, fresh length and clever tailoring in back (Change Room, $119). Stripey (go, optical illusions!) chambray pants have buckles on the side for instant size adjustment (Change Room, $109).
