Best gift you’ve ever received?
My mom and step-dad went to Roti Palace (744 Bathurst, 416-533-7466, rotipalace.com) to get me a gift certificate because they knew how much I love it. But the Palace didn’t have gift certificates, so they just wrote “$40” on a menu.
Best gift you’ve ever given?
For my friend’s wedding, I bought him a $100 meat brisket from Schwartz’s (schwartzsdeli.com) of Montreal. I wrapped it and put a little note on it that said “Open within four days.”
What’s on your list this year?
My family’s annual Hanukkah tradition is that my dad buys us socks from the McGregor Sock Outlet (70 East Mall, 416-252-3716, and others). He gets all the shitty seconds or the “imperfect” pairs. Every year I count down to Hanukkah because I always need new socks. Last year’s are done.
