
Ahead of the 2023 Michelin Guide Toronto selection set to be released this fall, Michelin Guide inspectors have unveiled 12 new additions to its prestigious list.
The list includes everything from neighborhood favourites, hidden gems to fine dining. These new additions reflect the city’s extraordinary culinary scene.
It’s no surprise Mediterranean restaurant Alder made the list with Chef Patrick Kriss in the kitchen. Alder is among the famed restaurants under Alo Food Group, others include the notable Alo, Aloette, and Alobar. Alder is known for its crowd-pleasing beef carpaccio, cucumber salad, dukkah and more.
Have a classic Filipino meal at this groovy Filipino diner in the Parkdale neighbourhood. Its colourful and cool decor is perfect for a chill day with friends and family. BB’s is known for its brunch featuring the puffy-fried Adobo-fried chicken paired with pineapple habanero hot sauce. But the diner does dinner just as well with its cocktail bar and classic Filipino dishes.
FK is loved in the neighbourhood for a reason. Its house bread surprises guests every time, it can be made with garlic scapes, sun dried tomatoes or olives, it all depends on what the chef is feeling for the day. For its entrees, FK has tender Cornish hen brushed in a smoky-sweet barbecue sauce and fresh pasta, like the braised oxtail tortellini.
Chef Takeshi Sato has curated a sophisticated dining experience for those who love the finest in Japanese cuisine and ingredients. Kappo chefs are masters at their craft. Not only do they excel in cooking methods, but they also understand the seasonality and quality of their ingredients. Additionally, a deep understanding of the tea ceremony and flower arrangement culture also goes hand-in-hand.
Created by restaurateur couple Chef Nuit and Jeff Regular, Kiin offers a casual dining experience that showcases the diversity of culinary traditions across Thailand. Chef Nuit and Regular go beyond their Northern Thai roots to ensure every region of Thailand is reflected. Kiin even means “to eat” in Thai.
Located on the outskirts of Yorkville, Mimi Chinese takes traditional classics and adds its own flair. Michelin Guide inspectors say the shrimp toast, made with fried bread and a hot mustard mayo is worth a visit alone. And for those spice-lovers, the Hunan chili sea bass is sure to test your senses.
French bistro Parquet is both fun yet casually elegant. This Harbord Village restaurant is admired for its refined and stylish interior. Meanwhile, the cooking is just as classy. It’s undeniably French with its mushroom beignets, cassoulet with duck confit, and steak frites with béarnaise.
Sunnys Chinese is a popular favourite in Kensington market. Dishes from Sunnys are inspired by high-energy dining cultures found throughout China. Those who visit should try its tripe and beef shank coated in chili oil and charred silver needle noodles. To end the meal, the crispy Hong Kong French Toast with black sesame jam and oolong condensed milk is the cherry on top.
The Wood Owl is a small spot in Danforth that offers simple eats utilizing fresh vegetables. Of course, meat is also an option as well. Its beef is paired with shoestring French fries and is often a weekly special. Guests can come in, enjoy the food and take in all the little details of this quaint contemporary restaurant.
