Overkill

2130A Queen East, 416-691-4165, www.overkill.ca Rating: NNNNN

Um, I don’t know when you last hit Ashbridges Bay, but in case you didn’t know, you should. During the summer months the entire west strip of beach is pretty much overrun by an enormous (and thankfully rather hot) beach volleyball community (www.notsoprosports.ca) – almost always outfitted in trademark Toronto beach gear, from where else? OverKill.

Launched in 1991 by volleyball pro and local Beacher Fred Koops (along with his brother Stephen and Ian Eibbitt ), neighbourhood shop OverKill has expanded beyond its signature line to all the best gear from brands specializing in beach and boarding culture (hello Reef, Quiksilver, Gravis, Hurley, Roxy, O’Neil, Billabong, etc).

From flip-flops to sweatshirts and from bathing suits to visors, this Beach landmark carries everything you might need for hitting the plage. But not sunscreen – that’s BYOB (bring your own block).

Koops’ picks: Reversible waterfall-print bikini by Aaron Chang, $110 OverKill ladies’ T-shirt, $28 and men’s Bust Out board shorts by Rusty, $64.

Look for: Online shopping on the website Nickson watches jewellery by Foxy Originals and Sadie tons of Oakley sunglasses and the always expanding in-house line of OverKill sportswear.

Store hours: Monday to Wednesday 10 am to 8 pm, Thursday and Friday 10 am to 9 pm, Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, Sunday 10 am to 7 pm.
