1237 Queen West, 416-534-0488
As the Gladstone and Drake hotels pull the crowds west along Queen, it's only a matter or time before the scenester tide rolls past the bridge and to the pre-Parkdale strip of trendy stores just past Dufferin. Only a few months old, Salvador Darling is already staking its claim as one of the area's first fashion retail pioneers. The space, multi-tasking in the best small-business kind of way, functions as a vintage clothing boutique, art gallery and café. Local style maven Tanya Grossi launched the store with content from her personal collection of vintage finds. Its excellent stock - and seriously chic decor - benefit from Grossi's previous fashion experience as a buyer for Le Chateau and later as a personal shopper.
Girl knows what she's talking about, and you'll feel the fashion-forward vibe as soon as you start browsing through the hangers. Yes, you'll want to buy everything (um, when don't you?), but at least here nothing is ever marked higher than $100. Grossi's picks : Men's suit by Yves Saint Laurent, $100; black open-toed heels, $30; graphic-print cocktail dress, $50.
Look for : The addition of non-vintage designer pieces to the racks, killer cappuccinos and the opening of the backyard patio this spring.
Hours : Tuesday to Saturday noon to 7 pm, Sunday noon to 5 pm.
