We’ve got some bad news for those who enjoy lighting one up. That addicting sensation may be the downfall of your love life. According to a new study by Dua.com, smokers are receiving dramatically less matches on their dating app compared to non-smokers.
The research looked at over 460,000 users within the app, revealing insightful patterns about the impact smoking has on dating and people’s love lives. The study found that smokers receive 52.7 per cent less matches than non-smokers.

“Smokers may have difficulty finding partners due to the fact that non-smokers appear to be more desired by potential matches. Non-smoking users received substantially higher match rates than their smoking peers (111.4 per cent),” Dua.com said.
Specifically, non-smoking females received 63.6 per cent more matches than female smokers in online dating.
On the other hand, for men, the findings were much lower. The study says 48.4 per cent of users had a preference for non-smokers.
“Although the findings confirm what many already assume, the statistics are still surprising, indicating that a healthy lifestyle not only enhances your wellbeing but also has a positive impact on your love life,” Eduard Luta, spokesperson at dua.com, said in a statement.
Additionally, the study also suggests young adults between the ages of 18 to 24 are the most active smokers and this has correlated to lower dating success rates. In this age group, smokers received 48 per cent fewer matches compared to their non-smoking peers.
In contrast, those in the older age group between the ages of 25 to 34 had a higher percentage of non-smoking users and thus, showing their focus on health.
