Only open since December, Bergstrom Originals is doing a brisk business on the up-and-coming stretch of Queen East at Broadview. Filled with neo-retro womenswear designed by Christina Bergstrom , this intimate store boasts minimalist white walls that work as a soothing backdrop to the loud prints on the racks. These clothes are cute and fun – definitely not wallflower material. But the handiwork on the vibrant pieces is evidence of Bergstrom’s couture training. She studied pattern-making in Denmark and apprenticed with a famous couturier with a royal clientele. Her custom fits will make you feel aristocratic even in a pop art mini.
Bergstrom’s picks: Graphic print Kahuna skirt, $132. Floral bell-sleeved Lola Wants top, $95, with contrasting So Suomi skirt, $132.
Look for: Fabulously bold prints, couture details and an incredible custom fit.
Hours: Wednesday to Friday 11:30 am to 7 pm, noon to 6 pm and noon to 5 pm.
