What goes into prepping for a show south of the border? We have to have the collection complete and ready for sale, so everything from final samples to American prices should be completed.

What tradeshow are you taking part in? Explain for the layman what a tradeshow does for an emerging designer. We attended Rendez-Vous tradeshow. Tradeshows basically provide emerging (and established) designers the opportunity to sell their collections to international buyers. There are a lot of buyers in NYC during this time of year, especially due to the proximity to fashion week. So they call it market week, and we’re all clamouring for them to buy our wares.

How do you perceive the American/global reception for a Canadian designer at NYFW? It’s definitely a different experience. We’ve been going down for a few seasons, just walking the shows and testing the waters. This time, we’re going all in. It’s not as comfy as it is at home in Toronto, where people already recognize your brand.

Which designers are you excited to see (do you go see any)? I saw Jeremy Laing, which was very exciting. Love his stuff. Also, Factory by Erik Hart, and Nomia. All were very inspiring in their own way.

What do you love about NYFW? What do you hate? I love that NYFW is one jam packed week, with a ton of shows going on, both on and off of the official roster. I love that everyone turns their personal style up a notch. I personally didn’t take my heels off the whole time I was there. The only thing I (love to) hate is the sleepless nights and the sore feet.

What’s the best part about going home? Clean laundry and loved ones.
