NOW What episode 33: Toronto’s face mask bylaw, explained

Last week, Toronto city council unanimously passed a temporary bylaw mandating the wearing of a cloth mask or face covering in all indoor public spaces to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

That bylaw comes into effect today (July 7), so for this episode I’m joined by Joe Cressy, councillor for Spadina-Fort York and chair of Toronto’s Board of Health, to discuss the science and the strategy behind the city’s mandatory mask rules.

Think of it as a public service conversation, and maybe something to pass along to your Facebook friend who keeps telling you we’re all part of some social engineering experiment.

NOW What is a twice-weekly podcast that explores the ways Torontonians are coping with life in the time of coronavirus. New episodes of NOW What will be released every Tuesday and Friday. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts, listen on Spotify or just play it below. And remember, we’re all in this together.
