Up to You 1483 Queen East, 2nd floor,416-778-6487 Rating: NNNNN
If you're one of those people who gets childishly inquisitive when you visit friends' homes, grilling them on where and when they got their goods and how much they paid, you definitely won't want to miss the voyeuristic retail experience that is shopping at Up to You.
Set up as a stylishly decorated apartment, everything from the shower curtain to the clothes on the hangers - minus the fixtures - are for sale. Opened this past September by brother/sister team Bill and Dimitra Doufekas , the boutique boasts an amazing selection of seriously unique items ranging from men's grooming products to designer clothing, diner plates to shoes. The pair make buying trips to New York, London, Paris, Athens and Helsinki every four months, so it's no wonder the stuff's so fresh.
So, if snooping around turns you on but not the cat-feeding/dog-walking component that usually accompanies house-sitting, try getting your kicks at Up To You. Who knows? You might even stock up so many designer goodies that you'll never want to leave home in the first place.
The Doufekases' picks: Antoni and Alison handbag from London, $235; Undie rug, $35; Chunk sweatshirt, $150; Playsam collectibles from Sweden, $55; and ATYPYK disposable camera, $95, that contains undeveloped souvenir shots of Paris photographed by up-and-coming artists (every camera is different).
Look for: men's Nudie jeans from Sweden; wall-mounted stainless-steel key holders by J-Me, Bright Night umbrellas and women's shoes by United Nude from London.
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday 11 am to 6 pm and Sunday noon to 5 pm.
