HARBOURFRONT FREE FLICKS at the WestJet Stage (235 Queens Quay West) every Wednesday from July 8 to September 2. Check website for times, harbourfrontcentre.com.
There are plenty of free movie screenings this summer. But only one of them is programmed and hosted by NOW’s senior film writer, who is me!
Yep, this is a shameless plug for Harbourfront Free Flicks, screening Wednesdays through September 2 at the WestJet Stage.
Organized around the concept of family, the series kicks off with Joel and Ethan Coen’s Raising Arizona (July 8) and continues with Tom McCarthy’s Win Win (July 15), Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein (July 22) and Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell (July 29).
August’s slate features Taika Waititi’s Boy (August 5), Alexander Payne’s The Descendants (August 12), Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited (August 19) and the Coens’ True Grit (August 26).
As always, the final screening (September 2) is decided by the audience this year, they’ll be choosing between Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride, Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing and the Seth Rogen-Barbra Streisand comedy The Guilt Trip.
Come on down, why don’t you? It’s really nice by the lake, especially now that Queens Quay isn’t mired in all that roadwork. I’ll see you there.
