#14. The new odds

Rating: NNNNN

NXNE 2008 is the place to be for reunited 80s bands. So with the announcement of festival headlining appearances by the UK shoegazer granddads Swervedriver and glam-pop survivors Redd Kross, Vancouver’s Odds – who reformed under the clever handle the New Odds to play a Barenaked Ladies vacation cruise – have decided to join in the nostalgic fun (El Mocambo, June 12, midnight Yonge-Dundas Square, June 12, 7pm).

Who’d want to miss Craig Northey, Doug Elliott, Pat Steward and guitarist Murray Atkinson (replacing Odds co-founder Steven Drake) knocking out the old faves along with the typically well-crafted power pop tunes from their Cheerleader album, just released on Kim Cooke’s Pheromone Recordings imprint?
