Low

Rating: NN

Hiring David Fridmann (Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips) to co-produce Low’s debut for Sub Pop brings some unexpected changes to the minimalist soft plinking routine we’ve come to expect from the sadcore survivors. Brace yourself – The Great Destroyer has some noisy guitars that are amped up well beyond the usual whisper level, and a few tunes could even be called upbeat by Low’s slow-burn standards. However, long-time fans will be relieved to know there’s still more than enough pissy recrimination and quietly simmering passive/aggressive unpleasantness to go around.
