PRIDE TIGER

Rating: NNN

Three, maybe four seconds into the first song of a Pride Tiger set, you know these fuds haven’t heard much outside of Thin Lizzy except for maybe a record by the Band or AC/DC. But that’s it. They’ve got Thin Lizzy’s whole hairy boogie rock thing down stone solid, complete with the duelling guitarists, only instead of a bassist frontman, Pride Tiger have a singing drummer in Matt Wood.

I thought producer/engineer/co-writer Matt Hyde (Sum 41) might have them play down the Lizzy vibe in the studio, but instead they’ve played it up on The Lucky Ones, as if they’re banking on the fact that the group’s target audience is too young to have heard The Boys Are Back In Town and will consequently believe Pride Tiger are rock gods for coming up with such a refreshing “new” sound. Who knows? It could work out for them.

Pride Tiger hit Lee’s Saturday (June 30).
