Album reviews Music

The Radio Dept.

Rating: NNNN

The Radio Dept. are a four-piece from Sweden, and judging from the sounds of this debut album, were really big fans of My Bloody Valentine. I guess shoegazer has been done for long enough that it’s time for a comeback, and this album makes a good case. Instead of creating the over-produced wall of sound of Kevin Shields’s former band, these sleepy heads keep it minimal and intimate. Acoustic guitar strumming, tinny drum machines, whispered vocals and grainy washes of fuzz guitar are the main elements, supported by catchy and wistful melodies and a comforting nostalgic feel.
