Fans of local heavy metal act Anvil may win a front-row seat to the recording of their 16th studio album, Anvil Is Anvil.
The group, who solidified their cult status following the release of the 2008 documentary The Story Of Anvil, are crowdfunding the recording budget via PledgeMusic, and the rewards include spending a day in the studio with the band ($750), attending a rehearsal ($500), a guest backup vocal appearance ($60-$320), dinner with the band in Toronto ($400), in-person or Skype lessons with drummer Robb Reiner and guitarist/singer Steve “Lips” Kudlow, and Reiner’s 1991 oil painting Steve’s Restaurant ($122,000).
According to the band, Anvil Is Anvil will be recorded without the aid of “short-lived trends or modern frills” and focus on delivering “traditional metal at its finest with massive classic rock elements.”
