DJ Khaled, the newest addition to Fat Joe’s Terror Squad family, is the crew’s greatest draft since the late Big Pun. Put it this way: one DJ Khaled is equivalent to five Remy Mas, as his rock-solid second mixtape-style album proves.
But the New Orleans-born DJ’s strength comes not from his skills (he does little but yell ad libs), but from his connections. All tracks, prepared by scalding producers like the Runners, Timbaland’s apprentice Danja, Cool & Dre, Kanye and Just Blaze, feature all-star lineups.
Leaning on the posse-track formula of Khaled’s explosive pre-emptive summer anthem We Takin’ Over (and its remix with Kels and Lil’ Kim), We The Best finds rap’s Billboard titans relating on record.
Just way too many highlights: Ja Rule on New York Part 2 sounding like a broken man, joking that he “just took off a couple years,” and Bone Thugs finally calling half the rap industry out for biting their style on The Originators.
