Four from the 6ix on the Polaris short list

Drake, Alvvays, BADBADNOTGOOD and Jennifer Castle will compete for this year’s Polaris Music Prize. 

Albums by the four Toronto acts are among the 10 that made the short list announced last week. The one chosen as Canadian album of the year will receive $50,000, and the nine other acts will receive $3,000. 

The full list of nominees: Alvvays by Alvvays, Sour Soul by BADBADNOTGOOD featuring Ghostface Killah, Deep In The Iris by Braids, Our Love by Caribou, Pink City by Jennifer Castle, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late by Drake, Goon by Tobias Jesso Jr., Brill Bruisers by the New Pornographers, Power In The Blood by Buffy Sainte-Marie, and Viet Cong by Viet Cong.

The winner will be announced at a gala ceremony on September 21 in Toronto hosted by singer/songwriter Fred Penner.
