George Brown : music notes

COVER : Eat, drink

Rating: NNNNN

Surprisingly, George Brown folks into rocking out actually have some decent options. If guitar-toting balladeers are your thing, C’est What (67 Front East, 416-867-9499) is steps from GB’s King East doorstep. If you’re more into demolishing your eardrums in front of speaker stacks, everyone from Bjºrk to the Roots, Belle & Sebastian and Incubus has passed through the doors of the massive Kool Haus/ Guvernment complex (132 Queens Quay East, 416-869-0045). Just remember, drinks are pricey, and the sound is hit-and-miss.

For a better-quality show-going experience, check out what’s happening at the Opera House (735 Queen East, 416-466-0313). The acoustics of the concert hall are pretty rad, and bands ranging from Blonde Redhead to From Autumn to Ashes have touched down there. Another good bet is the Dominion on Queen (500 Queen East, 416-368-6893), which hosts regular weekend jazz shows.
