Nina Hagen’s Friday show has been cancelled

The Viva Events-promoted Nina Hagen show that was scheduled to take place at the Opera House on Friday (February 5) has been cancelled.

In a message to Canadian fans posted on Facebook, the German punk/new wave performer said promoter Dante Brando had fallen ill and was hospitalized.

“We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery,” Hagen and her bandmates wrote in the statement. “As it turned out – neither the production, accommodation nor the transportation/the flights are in place, so we regret to inform the public that the shows scheduled in Toronto and Montreal have been postponed to later in the year or early 2017.

“I was so excited to perform for you guys, and now I was told that we can’t fix all the problems in one week time,” she added. “I feel devastated by this sad news. But, trust me, I’ll be back very soon!”

Ticket buyers who bought online through ticketscene.ca will be automatically refunded.

The cancellation follows a recent story in NOW that raised questions about Viva’s promoting practices.

Viva is no longer working with publicity firm Strut Entertainment. NOW reached out to Brando for comment on the status of scheduled upcoming shows with Dita Von Teese and Grace Jones but we got no response by press time.
